Fear of Criticism could be holding your business back

Getting Out There In a Bigger Way Means Overcoming Your Fear of
Criticism
QUOTE: “Your playing small does not serve the world. There
is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people
won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to
shine… And as we let our own light shine, we
unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence
automatically liberates others.” —Marianne Williamson

During a Mastermind session last week, I got clear on the
ONE obstacle standing between me and doubling my business
next year. Contrary to what I originally thought, it’s not
a lack of knowledge, of what to do next or a marketing
challenge. I actually know exactly what to do to double my
business. For me, it’s a question of leveraging my time, my
marketing and my resources so that I can help many, many
more solo-preneurs get more clients, create systems for
marketing, clean up their mindset and give them the tools
and the permission to succeed. That’s my purpose and it’s
fun for me.

What’s actually been holding me back is something much more
internal. It’s the deeply ingrained fear that the bigger I
get, meaning the bigger my business gets, the more I will
make myself a target for criticism and “pot shots”. Here’s
why:

For years, I’ve witnessed women entrepreneurs truly succeed
and watched as others began to pick them apart, to
criticize them and sometimes trash them, even when they
didn’t know them. Have you noticed that too? Ironically
enough, it’s usually other women doing the criticizing
(instead of the supporting), and I’m sad to say, I’ve
partaken in that sometimes too, even when I didn’t know the
person. I regret it, especially as I’m poised to be in the
very same position sometime soon. Read more »

Property Investing - Buy to Let

nullI am now serious about my property investment, I have to be - that investment is vital for supplementing my pension. I own one house that I was living in until recently then I let it out. There was no mortgage on the property so all the capital was tied up in the house and that made the yield very low. Yield in my view, is the return on your equity in the house. I am buying a house to let on the south coast (of England) in which my equity will be £55,000. The rent payable will be £9600 per year, that is 17% return on my investment. nullBut of course there is a mortgage to pay and the repayments will be £7224. Read more »

My journey to blogging for money (1)

I am sure that many of you reading this are in a similar position to me. I worked in the public sector for twenty years, and put up with a lot of **** for the sake of the pension. The job never paid very well but at least the salary was regular. I worked in a number of different departments and I did my job well. But in any company or organisation you also have to play office politics and when I got a new boss four years ago I knew trouble was ahead. The new manager was a real bureaucrat, and bogged us down in procedures although she never came up with any ideas or made any decisions. I sensed that she saw me as a threat from the first day, and sure enough I was made redundant less than a year later. Keep reading to find out how I got by after being laid off, and found ways to make money from home.

Fly in Peace and Quiet

If you are like me and hate having to listen to other people’s cellphone conversations you might like this: “Airline attendant attempts to trick passengers into turning off .

Stephen D. Levitt, co-author of the excellent book Freakanomics, was on a flight a few days ago, and before the plane was about to take off, the flight attendant announced: “According to the reading on my equipment up front, there is still one cell phone turned on, so please check that you have turned yours off.”

Obviously, she has no equipment for detecting this, but you should have seen the passengers scramble to check their bags. Still, brilliant on the part of the flight attendant, although I think it would have been more convincing coming from the pilot.”
