In searching for jobs recently, I found that people with no experience at all with computers were making a lot of money online. I immediately thought, “How fantastic!” The thought of being able to make a living from a computer and internet connection was too intriguing to surpass. If they can do it, I can do it. From that point on I was determined to make the internet work for me.

There are so many different opportunities to make money with an online business. Here are just four ways to make money online…

When looking for ideas to earn enough money for a decent income online, affiliate
based programs may be your best choice. These programs
offer a commission incentive that will allow you to earn
residual income for months and years to come. The optimal
way to benefit from these programs is to sign up for more
than just a few but not too many.

Joining too few affiliate programs will hurt your home
based business in more than one way:

First of all, you want to give your home based business
multiple streams of income. Limiting it to just one or
even two will not get you by today at all. Think about
like this: In the real world, relying on just one job to
get you by may be a recipe for disaster. What happens if
you lose that job or get hurt or sick? If there is no
money coming in from anywhere else you might just be on the
verge of bankruptcy.

This idea also applies to affiliate based programs.
Limiting your home based business to one stream of income
is not a good idea, it leaves your business extremely
vulnerable. Even if you build up that one stream to be a
ver high residual income, what if that business goes
bankrupt out of the blue? So do you.

Secondly, promoting one affiliate program will not satisfy
the needs of all your potential customers. People will
come to your website to get answers to a variety of
different questions and needs. If you can’t help those
people, your home based business will be in a lot of hurt.

Joining too many programs will hurt your home based
business in the following ways:

Too many programs means too many things to learn and apply.
You will get distracted, lose focus, and get confused on
what needs to be done. With all of these affiliate
programs to promote, it will be too difficult to promote
any which one effectively and you will not make as much
money as you could.

Also, if you have too many things to promote and your
website is real busy, your customers may not take you
seriously. They may think your site is a joke of a mess
and you are just interested in making money any way
possible rather than helping them. Your sincerity level
will drop and so will your sales.

What you need to do is find a happy medium. Promote a
number of affiliate programs to diversify your money but
not too many where you will lose focus of your customers.
Usually five or six will do the trick. This will allow you
to fall back on other residual income programs if one fails
and your customers will also have a good number to choose
from. This number will also allow you to focus better on financial reporting and
your website will not look too busy.

Last week I attended a very informative one day seminar designed to help participants learn specific strategies that they can use to create and sell a profitable business that makes money from home. Anybody who is self-aware will know that they encounter certain blocks that are stopping them from setting and achieving ambitious goals in their career or their business. “How To Earn $1000 Online Fast!

Almost every day, I get at least one email or phone call from a subscriber or potential client who is in a financial bind. Often they need $1000 or more for rent or car payments within the next few days. They’re looking for me to give them a quick-fix solution, so that they can then focus on building a solid online business.

I shudder when I hear someone say that they need to do something ‘now’ because I’ve seen so many people in similar situations make very bad decisions. Often when they implemented poorly conceived plans it ended up costing them much more in the long run.

Here are the top suggestions that I offer to Internet marketers who find themselves in the above described situation:

1) Write an ebook and offer resale rights to it. Currently Internet marketers love resale rights to ebooks. If you can put together a complete package that includes a website that’s even better.

Writing an ebook is no harder than writing a high school research paper and then converting it to PDF format. If you are really stuck, you could get a ghost writer to do it for you, but that means you need capital upfront.

Creating a website is no harder than visiting any of hundreds of template sites (which offer many free templates) and choosing a suitable template. Then you edit the template in your favorite html editor.

If you do offer the website with the ebook package then you also need to come up with the copy. The absolute easiest way to do this (for me) is to pretend I’m explaining, to someone sitting across from me, what problem(s)the ebook solves and why they need it. Then you go back and add things such as a guarantee, bonuses, and perhaps testimonials. To get the testimonials, offer free copies of the ebook to online associates in exchange for feedback. If the feedback they give you is negative, then that tells you where you need to fix the ebook.

This won’t give you the best copy in the world but will give you something that can be reworked several times. After the ebook package is created, you can offer it to your list if you have one. If not, you can offer it prominently on your website. Make the offer irresistible. You can also offer it through online forums, and community-type sites, where they allow you to advertise. In a real pinch, you can offer it through Ebay auctions, but realize that Ebay buyers are generally looking for a bargain.

2) Create, or have created, a piece of software and offer resale rights to it. Practically everything said about marketing the ebook package applies to a software package. You can go to numerous sites such as Elance.com and RentACoder.com and place a description of the software you want created. “Techies” registered at these sites then bid on your job. You review their bids, their references and portfolios, and then choose one to do the job.

There are techniques and intricacies to hiring out work through these sites. I won’t explain them here because there are countless articles on the topic that you can find through the search engines. Read several of these articles, and you should be equipped with the do’s and don’ts of hiring out work through “lance-type” sites.

3) Offer your services. If you’ve been online for any amount of time, and been seriously learning the skills required, then you should have marketable talents. Many online marketers do the tasks that they do best and outsource the rest. If you make it known that you are available to do some of these chores, you should be able find jobs.

One problem that I’ve noticed in this area is that someone will offer to pass along work to another person (as a favor to get them out of a bind), and the person gaining the work will quote outrageous fees. Don’t do that! The person offering the work will just go find someone who charges reasonable fees.

The are numerous Elance-type sites where you can go to list your availability and/or to see what jobs may be listed. You can also post your availability on certain discussion forums and community-type sites.

4) Sell an affiliate product using article marketing. This is one of my favorite selling techniques, and one that I teach often to “serious content marketers” such as members of Content Desk where I sometimes help conduct webinars. It’s at, appropriately enough : http://MassiveCashFromArticles.com

My system, which should be easy for you to adopt, is to first identify a product that’s really needed and wanted by your marketplace. It should already be selling well. Identify the problems that this product solves. Then you write an article about the PROBLEMS. Emphasize why these are really serious problems that your reader really wants to solve. Then you show why the affiliate product that you are marketing is the perfect solution. This is a proven formula!

After you’ve written the article, you can distribute it to article directories and publishers using article submission software. You can also use article submission services which may be a little more expensive (but can also be more convenient). The software that I use, submits to over 700 sites, and comes as part of my membership in Content Desk.

You can also submit your article directly to the publishers of your favorite ezines. Use a personal approach with each one. Explain that you are a longtime subscriber, and why you feel that this article is perfect for their ezine. Explain how their readers would benefit from the article and therefore be further endeared to the ezine. By explaining the “what’s in it for them and their readers” you increase the chances of them using your article dramatically.

5) Run a sale from your site of specially selected product(s).If you have a steady flow of repeat visitors, this can solve your cash flow problem very quickly. What’s critical here is that you make absolutely certain that the product is fresh, in-demand, and properly priced.

After identifying a product that you plan to sell, do a search on Ebay to confirm it’s not being sold dirt-cheap over there. Then do a search on your favorite search engine for the product, and visit a few sites selling the product to see what they’re selling it for. Unless it’s your own product, or brand new, you should be able to find it in the search engines. If you see a lot of sites giving the product away, that’s a sign that you should seek another product (one that’s not being devalued).

Find, or have created, a good product, place it on its own page on your site (with NOTHING else), and then direct traffic to that page. Then use standard copywriting techniques to sell the product. Prove to them that your price is better than they can find it elsewhere. Prove to them that the product will solve their problems. The easiest way to do this is with testimonials. Ask them for the order, and make it as easy as possible to place the order.

Any of the above five techniques will enable you to generate some quick revenue in a pinch. I’ve used 1, 2 and 4 numerous times with fantastic results, although I wasn’t in a pinch. The reason that I don’t use number 3 is that I don’t like trading time for money, which is what you’re doing when you offer a service. Your earnings are limited by the amount of time that you can offer. I rarely use number 5 but when I have used it, it’s worked well too.

The final thing you have to do after deciding to use any of the above techniques is to DO it. Make a plan and then take massive action. Don’t over-analyze. That’s what stops too many people from extricating themselves from that crisis!

People always seem to be looking for the latest business ideas: if you have a home based business you are especially prey to mounds of email, each one claiming to have found the best way to make money online. There is nothing wrong with being innovative and trying new methods to generate online earnings. The problem comes up when people, seeking new methods, forget to pay attention to the proven methods of making money online. What has worked in the past for successful webmasters is still working today, and will likely continue to work into the foreseeable future. There are four main areas a webmaster must focus on to be successful, regardless of the type of website you run or the product or service that you sell.

Conversions are critical. You can get a million visitors to your site, but that means nothing if none of them make a purchase at your site. Conversions are calculated as the percentage of people that make a purchase at your site, compared to the number of total visitors.

The higher your conversion rate, the less traffic that you need to your site. Many webmasters struggle with getting that all-important traffic to their site. So instead of exclusively chasing traffic, also work on increasing the amount of traffic that you can convert into sales. There are a number of ways that you can do this with your online business.

Many webmasters understand that having a compelling sales letter, or sales pitch, is crucial. If you do not have the best possible sales letter, then you are losing potential customers. If you do not feel comfortable writing your own sales letter, consider hiring a copywriter to do it for you. You could also ask the copywriter to develop a few sales letters for your business, and you can do a comparitive analysis to see which ones bring the best conversion results for your business.

You can also improve your conversion ratio by paying attention to the layout of your web pages. There are a lot of different opinions on the best layouts for selling your products or services. For me there are a couple of easy ways to determine web page layouts.

The first thing that I consider is what I like and dislike about other websites. Is it hard to find the product on the page? Is the price hidden? Is a description of the product easy to find? Is the ordering information easy to find?

The other factor that I look at is what successful webmasters before me have done with their layout. There is no need to reinvent the wheel here. Instead of spending weeks trying to develop my own perfect layout, I will start with a template similar to those that are known for making high conversions.

Linking For Traffic Now that we have covered conversions, we can talk about linking for traffic. While your conversions may be very good, they will never reach 100%. So what this means is that the more of that precious traffic you get (at whatever conversion rate you are getting) will result in more sales and more money. It is known that the more links you have to your website, the more traffic that you will get. The links to your site are critical in driving traffic.

First of all, people click those links. I value a link from a high traffic website as much or more than a link from a high PageRank site, because actual humans are likely to be clicking the link to my website. I also place a very high value on having articles published in ezines and newsletters, because it always results in a nice boost in my website’s traffic. The amount of traffic that comes as a result of having an article published in an ezine or newsletter will of course vary depending on the number of subscribers on the list.

A certain percentage of readers will always click the links that I have in a webpage or an ezine. And a certain percentage of those who visit my website will convert to sales. Having my link appear in some ezines or newsletters can literally translate to thousands or tens of thousands of visitors to my website in a single day!

If you utilize article distributions, you can often get your articles published on a variety of websites and ezines. These articles will have your link in the author box, and you will also have the opportunity to discuss your web site and the products or services that you offer in your author box. This being said, the more effort you put into writing a good article and author box, the more likely you are to get some traffic as a result.

Linking Popularity Building links for search engine placement purposes is just as important as linking for traffic. The more relevant back links that you have coming into your site, the higher your website will rank in the major search engines for your keywords. Back links are one of the best ways that you can get your online business to rank near the top of the search engines for your niche.

Be sure to use an anchor text on those links that is the same or similar to the keywords that you are targeting. Also, try to get those back links from relevant sites as much as possible. By this, I mean try to get those links from sites and webpages that have something in common with your site. A link from a webpage about bird watching will have little in common with your website about automobiles.

To illustrate the importance of back links, look at Digg.com. They have a whopping 131,000 back links, which is why they are one of the most popular social book marking sites on the Internet.

Link Baiting Link baiting is a great way to get those important back links, both for traffic and for link popularity. But, what is link baiting? It is when you have something so interesting / amusing / informative / useful that people will want to link to you, without you asking them to do so. Having something on your site that people will blog about, tell their friends about, or to send emails to their contacts about, is what constitutes link baiting. Your bait is so powerful that the fish will basically jump into the boat, without you ever needing to ask!

What kind of things work as link bait? This will depend a lot on the audience that you are trying to reach. In the SEO world, good link bait is placing free webmaster tools on your site. This means that people will bookmark the site; refer to it on forums, and possibly blog about what they learned by using your free webmaster tools.

If you are able to grow a reputation among your niche market as an expert, people will cite you and your website because of the quality information that you offer. If you run a humor site, people will forward the URL to their friends and tell them to check out a certain page.

Link baiting is also why social bookmarking is exploding in popularity. If you have an article that gets onto the front page of simpy via link baiting, you will have an explosion in traffic. The same can be said for all of the major social bookmarking sites.

Link baiting is all about offering something unique that people will want to tell their friends about and that they will want to talk about. Spend some serious time thinking about what you can offer to your customer base that will result in successful link baiting for your website.
