This is embarrassing but I have a roof rack for my car and I only tried to use it after I had the car for six months.  And of course I had no idea how to fix it on safely.  How I envy anyone I see with a van rack, they are so useful for carrying large loads.  That is why I have a garden table waiting to be picked up after it would not fit into either of our cars!
